IT Job Market Report - July 2019

  • The demand for IT professionals has softened over the last 4 months with a drop of 7%.
  • Candidate availability remains very low with only 7.6% of candidates within the IT sector actively looking for work.

Data Analysis

Despite the drop in demand for IT professionals over the last few months, we are still in a market where demand is outstripping supply within many areas.

Candidate availability has improved slightly since March / July when the Brexit impasse started to cause paralysis within the labour market.

The demand for contract staff remains largely unchanged with 13% of IT vacancies contract based.

The number of IT candidates registered on LinkedIn who are open to opportunities has improved slightly to 7.9% (7.7% in July).

Commentary

The IT Jobs market remains a challenging landscape for employers who are seeking to attract talent.

Although confidence has returned slightly since July, there is still a lot of uncertainty within the market with the October deadline for Brexit already getting ominously close.

The number of applications for advertised roles has dropped by 22% on a Year-on-Year basis which is further proof that candidates are sitting tight.

There continues to be significant upward pressure on IT salaries, with CV Screen seeing examples of candidates securing salary hikes of 25% in 2019. There is no doubt that employers are more prepared to pay a premium to secure talent in this talent short marketplace.
