26th January 2006 - North West experiences marginal rise in IT Salaries
CV Screen the specialist IT Recruitment Consultancy has recently conducted an in depth analysis of the IT job market in the North West region*. By analysing over 2000 advertised IT positions in the region, the survey shows how the current economic climate is shaping the IT industry and how this has affected salaries of IT professionals.
The survey concludes that the average advertised salary for an IT professional has increased marginally in Q4 to £28,909 (£28,437 in Q3).
Additionally, the survey notes that despite the slight increase in all salaries, 1st line support salaries have dropped 5% from £16,825 to £15,954.
Regional manager Jamie Corbridge commented “the drop in 1st line support salaries can be partly attributed to the fallout following the closure of Time Computers which ceased trading in July 2005. The company employed over 500 staff from the Headquarters in Burnley, many of them IT support staff and the increase in supply of available staff is likely to have had a downward affect on salaries.”
Corbridge added “We also saw a rise in demand for skilled Developers especially those with strong C# and .Net skills. I would anticipate that this will continue at the beginning of 2006 as candidates will be able to be selective when choosing a new role.”
In conclusion Corbridge added “Recent figures from the office of National Statistics indicate that unemployment in the region has fallen to 4.7%. Despite a relatively quiet end to the year in the North West the signs are that 2006 will see increased activity within the IT jobs market.”
